There are several ways in which you can help.
Spare a prayer for ’em
Prayer is the most powerful way in which you can help those who are discerning their vocation and are being formed toward priesthood. By offering a prayer for them you will be obeying the Lord’s command to “Pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” (Mt 9, 38)
Offer a little sacrifice
It is God’s desire to “Give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding” (Jer 3, 15). Yet these young men who are feeling that they are being called to this lofty ideal very often need to do an interior journey which is not without its struggles. By offering a little sacrifice with the intention of interceding before God for the needs of he who is preparing himself for priesthood, you can be helping him face difficult struggles when the going gets tough. When faced with a particularly unyielding spirit, Jesus told his disciples, “This kind does not go out but by prayer and fasting.” (Mt 17,21)
Apart from considering any of the above, you might opt to help by providing your financial support depending on your current capacity.
- Study Bursary
- Offer a bequest
- Mass celebrated as suffrage for a loved one
